In this project, I explored a single word through the lens of visual communication, exploring conceptual, formal, and material solutions. Ultimately, I created 100 variations of the word 'tree,' ranging across various digital and traditional mediums.
Beginning with the conceptual variations, I began by stretching the meaning of the word tree, exploring various cultural connotations and traditions.
In the formal variations, I used each of the elements and principles of design to explore the visual characteristics of trees.
The next level was to move into the third dimension, utilizing unorthodox materials to create textures, shapes, and concepts related to trees.
For the final 25 sketches, I further built on the earlier variations, incorporating abstract concepts, design elements and principles, and physical materials. Additionally, I explored new techniques of digital illustration and collage.
At the conclusion of this project, I arranged each work in a series of posters, exploring different grid layouts and further building on the meaning behind trees.
