The Westside Traveling Art Museum highlights works of art in communities that have been impacted by violence on the Westside of Chicago, bringing positivity and healing to spaces historically marred by disenfranchisement and injustice.
In this collaborative endeavor, I worked with 11th police district councilwoman Alees Edwards and photographer Shauntae Smith to coordinate 47 artworks displayed on a series of posters.
For my portion of the project, I was responsible for designing the banner with the project statement and each of the sponsors, editing the photographed artwork,, and composing each element onto a 16 x 20 inch poster. It was essential that the banner remained neutral and tasteful, allowing for the artwork to shine.
Within this process, I explored how design can be a medium through which art can be viewed – ultimately using the restorative power of art to heal wounds.
